Sunflower Hidden Gift Card Holder

Bracket-shaped petals in two sizes,
with rim and echo accent shapes, add-on leaf,
two-layer center circle, "hello sunshine" tie-on tag.
Slide the top two large petals upward to reveal
the hidden compartment for standard gift card.
Main flower shape and "slider" have multiple layers for strength.
Measures approx. 6.5" wide x 6" tall when closed.

(Tag assembly follows the card assembly
at Step 17.)
ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A main (large petals, lower) card front base
B main compartment build up shapes (5)
C main card back base
D slider build up (3)
E slider back layer      F slider upper back
G slider upper front accent
H main front with accents
I small petals front accent & rim accent
J slider accents   K flower middle circles (2 sizes)
L leaf main, build up for strength, accent half
NOT SHOWN: build up circles for smaller petal
shape (see step 10).
M tag base
N positioning guide (cut to match tag)
O individual "sunshine" letters
P "hello" welded word cut
2. Prepare the main (lower) build up by layering
and attaching, one by one, the build up shapes,
taking care that all cut edges line up as
precisely as possible, taking special care
that the 'U' shaped interior edges match exactly.
It will be helpful to press the build up assembly
-- here and throughout the process --
under something heavy and flat while the glue
is drying, such as a wooden box, fabric-covered
cast-off free weight bars, cast-off re-purposed iron, etc.
This will keep all glued-up shapes flat and prevent
undesirable curling or warping.
3. Position and attach the interior build up stack
onto the backside of the main back panel,
matching outer cut edges precisely.
4. Position the main front panel over the
build-up/back assembly, match edges, and
attach in place.
5. Prepare the slider by layering, one by one,
the slider compartment shapes, aligning
edges precisely, particularly the interior edges,
and glue in place.
6. Position and attach the slider interior shape
build up stack over the slider back layer.
7. Position and attach the upper front
"petals" portion shape over the front of slider . . .
. . . then turn the assembly over and attach
the back upper petals shape at the top.
8. Prepare the large petals shape,
slider upper shape, and smaller petals shape
by positioning and attaching the accent trims.
9. Position and attach the main large front accent
assembly over the main base (compartment)
assembly, matching edges that should align.
10. Layer and attach the 3 to 4 build up circles.
11. Position the build up circle assembly
behind the smaller petal assembly,
centering by matching up the hole punches.
(This build up will provide some space to make
inserting the slider into
the base's compartment easier.)
12. Apply adhesive to the circle build up
exposed surface ONLY, then . . .
. . . position over the base assembly, matching
center holes, and apply pressure to the circle stack
area to attach. Then . . .
. . . layer and attach the inner and outer
circle centers, and position & attach
over the small petals assembly.
13. Position and attach the accent assembly
to the upper petal portion of the slider.
14. Test the function and fit of the slider
by inserting it behind the smaller petal layers
and into the channel between front and back
of the main large petals assembly . . .
. . . and push it fully in.
14. Layer and attach the 2 main leaf shapes,
then position and attach the half accent shape,
matching the side edges that should align.
15. Position and attach the leaf to the side
as desired. (This image shows one mid-side
position; the final project has the leaf
nearer the side bottom.)
16. To "fill" the sunflower, pull the slider out
to insert gift card into the recess, then . . .
. . . push the slider in again to hide the card.
17. Position the letters positioning guide
on the front of the tag.
NOTE: if the guide shape is cut from card stock
that matches the tag, it will become invisible.
18. Position and attach the individual letters
for 'sunshine' word exactly over the guide letters.
19. Finish the tag by positioning and attaching
the 'hello' welded word cut, adding twine, etc.
Position and tie the tag through the punch hole
on the hidden gift card slider petal.

Sunflower Sunny Day Card Assembly

Shaped front panel holds a stylized,
layered sunflower with a circle window.
On the card's inside a circle panel holds
the word cuts sentiment "have a sunny day"
with accompanying tiny heart.
Four-piece honeybee, layered leaf and stem
complete the front design.
Build-up rings give the petal layers dimension.
Measures approx. 5x7 when left-side folded.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A main card base
B petals assembly contrast base
C bottom petals ring   D bottom rings build up (3)
E top petals ring   F top rings build up (3)
G flower center ring
H window "show thru" circle (attaches inside card)
I leaf/stem unit base    J leaf base
K leaf and stem contrast accents
L bee shapes: body, eyes, stripes, wings
M word cuts & positioning guide for
"have a happy" and "day"
NOT SHOWN: mini heart accent (see Step 17.)
2. Position and attach the interior window "liner"
circle on the inside back of the main card shape,
where dashed circle lines indicate.
3. Position and attach the word cuts on top
of the positioning guide shape.
NOTE: the guide shape should match
the circle liner shape shown in step 2.
The sample here was NOT cut correctly.
Explanation will be provided for both versions.
4. Assemble the bee by layering stripes over
body, attaching eyes on head,
attaching wings
5. To position the word arch, first close
the card so that the window opening can
provide guidance.
6. If the positioning guide was cut to match
the show-thru circle, no further trimming
is needed.
If exposed guide "connections" show,
use scissors immediately after attaching
while glue is still fresh to trim away what shows.
7. Position and attach 'day' word cut near
bottom of window circle
(be sure to leave space for the heart accent
in the middle).
8. Position and attach the stem onto the main
leaf/stem base shape as shown,
and the leaf accent on the leaf base.
9. Position and attach the leaf over the leaf base.
Then position the unit over the matching
shape on the lower card front.
10. Prepare the two ring build up units for
the two petal layers by layering 3 rings, one by one,
taking care that inside circle edges match precisely.
11. Position one ring behind the bottom petals
ring, matching inside circle edges precisely,
and attach in place.
12. Repeat to attach second ring behind
the top petals ring.
13. Apply adhesive to ring only on the backside
of the lower layer petals ring, then . . .
. . . position and attach to the contrast base shape,
taking care to align window circle edges precisely.
14. Repeat the positioning and attaching
of the top petal ring assembly.
15. Position and attach the rim ring.
16. Position and attach the petals rings assembly
over the front of the card, matching circle window
openings and outer edges where they
can ling up.
17. Position and attach the bee unit . .  .
. . . and attach the mini heart
at the center of the words panel.

Sunflower 3D Hex Box

Sunny hexagon shaped gift box composed of lid
and base with dimensional sunflower blossom
on top built of two sizes of slice-form petals.
Layered rosette and center design embellish the top.
Great as a treasures box or gift box to celebrate
the sun-flowery days of summer,
or many other great occasions.
Or, simply use as cheery decor.
Measures approx. 5.5" tall x 6.5" wide
x 2.2" tall (plus top decoration).

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A main LID shape with accent rectangles
B main BASE shape with accent rectangles
C base "liner" to reinforce & strengthen base
D lid accent shape (with slots for E riser)
E riser to provide platform for sunflower center
F rosette pleated strips (2)
G rosette front and back stabilizing centers (2)
H large petal units (6 sets)
I small petal units (6 sets)
J leaf units (6)   K flower center layers
2. Prepare the riser shape by bending back on
all the panel perforation and tab lines,
except bend the end tabs forward.
3. Bend the sides back to join the corner seams:
bring the straight side edge to overlap the opposite
tab to the perforation line, and glue in place.
Complete all 6 corner seams.
This is the completed riser unit.
4. Position the riser in the center face side
of the lid accent, and insert the tabs into
the slots. Then push completely in . . .
. . . and bend tabs outward. Glue each tab in place.
On the face side, apply pressure through the lid
accent to make sure that the tabs are secured.
5. Prepare each of 6 LARGE petal units by bending
three perforated petal shapes with the right side
of paper bent face to face (valley fold).
Each unit also can include the optional
plain (un-perforated and un-bent) petal base.
To ensure that the tips will be uniform
and crisp, crease along the fold with thumbnail
extending all the way to the tip on each petal.
6. Join the first two of the "slices" by lining them
up side by side, identifying the backs of each
that correspond, then gluing those two backs together.
Take care to line up the fold edges as precisely
as possible, with the tip and inward ends
also aligned precisely.
Press the stack flat to ensure that the connection
between the two slides being joined is complete
and secure.
7. Position the third slice in similar fashion,
then join the back surfaces that correspond,
repeating the accurate adjustment and pressure
on the stack steps.
8. If using the plain base back shape, apply
adhesive to the back faces of the slide unit,
then position and attach the two.
NOTE that the base shape may not reach
completely to the edges of the slice unit underside.
Prepare 6 large petal units.
9. These are the shapes for each of the 6
smaller petal units: four slice shapes plus
optional base plain shape.
Prepare the perforated shapes by
bending in half with face sides together,
and thumbnail crease all the way to tips.
10. Position and join the 4 slices in a manner
similar to the large petal process . . .
. . . joining slice back halves to adjoining
and corresponding slice shapes until all four
are joined.
NOTE that it is possible to spread the slice
fins to be able to apply pressure to the slices
being joined to ensure secure joining.
Add the optional base plain shape if desired.
Complete 6 small petal units.
Here are the completed small and large petal units.
11. Position (center base edge against riser side)
each leaf shape on the lid accent,
and attach in place.
12. Position each large petal unit onto the lide
accent, with base touching the corner of the riser,
and tip aligned at the hex corner, and glue
underside in place securely.
13. Position each small petal unit between
the large petal units, overlapping the bottom
slice layer of the large neighboring petals.
Petal should be centered along riser side edge
and touching, with point bisecting the outer hex edge.
14. Identify the tab end of each of the 2
pleated medallion strips, then . . .
. . . prepare each by bending the perforations
in accordion fashion, beginning with a valley fold
at the tab end first perforation, then alternating
mountain-valley-mountain across the strip.
15. Join the pleated strips by overlapping
the straight (left in this image) side edge over
the opposite strip's tab to perforation.
Make sure top and bottom cut edges align,
and join the seam.
16. Form the strips into a ring tube (face side outward)
and complete the second seam in the same way.
(Heat up the glue gun before the next steps.)
17. Begin to form the pleated strips ring into
its flattened form by gathering the pleats together. . .
. . . while at the same time forcing
the top inward . . .
. . . until the pleats are flattened.
Continue to hold this form, pressing inward
from all sides toward the center.
18. Apply hot glue around the pleats at the
middle opening, then quickly position the front
cover circle, centered . . .
. . . and glue in place. Continue to force
the medallion into its smallest diameter
while the hot glue cools and solidifies
to ensure that the pleating is uniform all around.
19. Position and attach the back cover.
20. Layer the bottom two center shapes (large scalloped
shape with hole-punched decorative overlay,
center, and join.

21. Position and join (centered) over the front
of the pleated medallion.
To help center the unit over the riser box,
use a pointed piercing tool such as this awl
to punch a hole through the center of the front
and back cover circles of the medallion.
22. Position the medallion unit over the petal
assembly, using the center guide hole to
align the two.
23. Position and attach the top layer center
(to hide the guide hole).
24. Prepare the LID and BASE main shapes
by bending back on all panel perforation lines,
side seam tabs and rim flanges all around.
25. Unfold LID side walls, then position and
attach each of the side accent rectangles
offset within the creased lines.
26. Bring two adjacent sides into position
to overlap the straight edge to the adjacent
tab perf line, and glue the seam. Complete
each of the six side seams.
27. Bend the rim flanges inward and glue in place
to the backside of the side wall.
28. Repeat for the BASE: the attachment of
the accent rectangles, the shape the wall alignment
and seaming, and the rim folding
inward and attaching.
29. Position and attach the BASE interior
hexagon reinforcement shape inside the base.
30. Position the lid sunflower unit, with the accent
hexagon shape slightly offset within the lid's
top edges, and attach in place.
(NOTE: it may be helpful to use a quick grab
glue such as Fabri-Tack or hot glue.)
31. To close the gift box, carefully fit the lid
over the base.
NOTE that this may be a snug fit.
Here is the completed sunflower box.
